Prosecutor general’s office discusses reforms against femicide, public participation in regional meetings

Residents of Georgia’s western municipalities of Khelvachauri and Ozurgeti met officials from the prosecutor general’s office of Georgia on Wednesday to discuss measures being taken by the state body against femicide and importance of public awareness and involvement in the effort.

The state body said barriers facing women victims of violence, gender-motivated crimes and gender stereotypes were discussed during the meetings.

Hosted as part of the recently launched public awareness campaign, the discussion was aimed to contribute to sharing information on the state body’s work to combat femicide, domestic and gender-based violence.

Started in October, the campaign is supported by the United States embassy and the United Nations women’s organisation.
