Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili and European Union ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski on Friday welcomed the dynamics of the development of economic relations between the country and the bloc, making a particular mention of the implementation of the 2014-signed association agreement, the ministry of economy said.

The parties discussed projects of regional importance being implemented at the initiative of Georgia and aimed at connecting European and Asian markets through the South Caucasus corridor. Among them is the Black Sea submarine cable project, which is designed to connect the energy transmission infrastructure of Georgia and the European Union.

Davitashvili and Herczynski also discussed cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, with the minister noting his government was working on the development of the Middle Corridor, a trans-Caspian east to west route marking the shortest transport connection between Europe and Asia.

Davitashvili said the government was interested in cooperating more closely with the EU to ensure the closer integration of the transport infrastructure of Georgia into European transport routes.

The parties also noted the cooperation within the EU4DIGITAL initiative, aimed at the development of the digital economy in Georgia, and noted the government’s “priority direction” of seeing the country become the digital service centre of the region. They pointed out the initiative involved the establishment of the country as a digital hub and attraction of international investments in the digital corridor connecting Europe with Asia.
