Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili on Wednesday held meetings with the European commissioner for energy Kadri Simson and the commissioner for transport Adina Vălean, within the framework of a working visit to Brussels, discussing the relations between Georgia and the European Union, the fulfilment of obligations defined by the Association Agreement and other priority areas of cooperation.

Davitashvili and Simons discussed bilateral projects between Georgia and the EU and the approximation of the country’s legislative framework to European legislation, with Simons highlighting future prospective projects between Georgia and the EU, and noting that a feasibility study was conducted to analyse the profitability of the construction of an underwater cable to connect the EU and the country.

Vălean, after the meeting with the Georgian economy minister, said she “highly appreciated” Georgia’s activities in terms of playing a regional role in coordinating efforts for the development of the Middle Corridor, the economy ministry said.
The European commissioner for transport also noted the further harmonisation of regulations between Europe and Georgia and steps for deepening the existing cooperation had been discussed during the meeting with Davitashvili.
The Georgian economy minister has been holding high-level meetings in the European Commission, discussing Georgia's EU integration.
