Georgia is ahead of the fellow Associated Trio countries of Moldova and Ukraine in terms of fulfilling conditions for gaining the European Union membership candidate status, economy minister Levan Davitashvili was cited as saying by the ministry on Thursday.

The ministry said Davitashvili had made the remark in his meeting with the Council of European Union Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

[In their comments], members of the delegation pointed out that if these obligations are fulfilled successfully and quickly, Georgia will definitely get the candidate status and the rapid integration of Georgia into the European Union will continue", Davitashvili said after the meeting.

He also added the European Council’s granting of the European perspective to the country in June was "very important in the process of our European integration".

The meeting also discussed the current economic trends of Georgia, the ministry said.
