Peaceful demonstrations were held in various Georgian cities on Thursday evening to express solidarity for the Ukrainian people following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.
Civilians have gathered in Georgia's capital of Tbilisi, as well as cities of Gori, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Poti and Batumi to condemn Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The national anthem of Ukraine was played at the demonstrations.
Prior to the solidarity rally in Tbilisi, people had gathered in front of the Ukrainian embassy to show support. Denouncing the Kremlin's actions, Russian citizen Anton Mikhalchuk burnt his own passport in front of the embassy.
I renounce my citizenship of this country [Russia]. I don't want to have this passport," said Mikhalchuk.
The international community has condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine, expressing support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned the Russian Federation of “swift and firm response”.
The European Union, United States and several other countries have already imposed sanctions on Russia.
