Georgian police officers have arrested four individuals for hacking into a computer system for financial gain and theft, the Georgian interior ministry said on Friday.
The state body said it had established the offenders had accessed bank accounts of citizens without permission, using mobile phones of their victims, before transferring over ₾100,000 (about $35,944) to own bank accounts.
The crimes are punishable up to 10 years in prison.
The prosecutor's office of Georgia has arrested two individuals for unlawful appropriation of a large amount of money from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and illegal obtainment of credit from TBC Bank, using their official position, the office announced on Wednesday.
The employees of the cybercrime division of the Georgian interior ministry have arrested four and charged eight individuals with fraud, legalisation of illicit income and unauthorised access to the computer system, the ministry announced on Sunday.
