Prosecution Service charges three for fraudulent repair contract at Central Republican Hospital

The Prosecution Service of Georgia on Friday said its Criminal Prosecution Division had detained the former Financial Director and two employees of the Central Republican Hospital in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi for fraudulent misappropriation of “a large amount of money belonging to the state” and exceeding authority.

The body said on Friday its investigation found the Financial Director of the Hospital had signed a ₾3,060,496 ($1,179,491) contract with a “close relative” of an employee of its Infrastructure Department for construction and repair works of four floors of the venue. 

It noted a ₾580,767.64 ($223,823) difference in the actually performed work and the amount of funds indicated in documents for the construction and repair, adding ₾143,846 ($55,437) of the amount had then been appropriated by the group, with an attempt to seize the remaining ₾436,921.60 ($168,386).

The Service said the crime was punishable by six to nine years in prison, and added the investigation was continuing to identify other individuals involved in the crime.
