A foreign citizen has been sentenced to six years in prison for money laundering after Tbilisi city court accepted evidence submitted by the prosecutor general’s office of Georgia in the case.

The prosecutor’s office said evidence had shown the offender bringing in ₾1,400,000 (about $495,961) in different currencies to Georgia with the purpose.

The sum had been obtained “through criminal means” abroad, the state body noted, with the individual using the funds to buy real estate and luxury cars, subsequently confiscated by Georgian law enforcers.

The offender has been fined ₾500,000 (about $ 177,129) and is set to face up to six years in prison.
