Kutaisi City Court in Georgia’s west has charged an individual with fraudulent embezzlement of money from citizens using false pretenses, including a promise of releasing a prisoner from detention, the Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday.

The Court agreed to evidence presented by the Office and found the individual - only identified through their initials - guilty in 10 cases of appropriation of funds.

The state body said the convicted person had embezzled ₾83,890 (about $28,289/€26,904) and $8,750 through fraud, including by promising the victims to ensure release of a prisoner from a penitentiary institution.

They also made promises of obtaining funds to assist in purchase of real estate through auction, and treatment of severe illnesses.

The offender is set to face six years in prison.
