Georgian minister introduced to innovations at Baku educational institutions

Georgian education minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli on Friday visited general, higher and professional educational institutions in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku and was introduced to innovations in the country’s education system.

The Georgian education ministry said Chkhenkeli had discussed prospects to “further strengthen” ties in his field, and presented steps being taken by his government to promote education back in his country during visits to public schools, STEAM and digital technology clubs, Baku State University, French-Azerbaijani University and Diplomatic Academy of Azerbaijan.

At a meeting at the State Centre of Industry, Innovation and Vocational Education, the minister reviewed his body’s work to promote vocational education in Georgia, and informed the Azerbaijani side of the meeting about the unified national strategy of education and science for 2022-2030, approved by the government of Georgia.

The strategy provides for the modernisation of the science, technology and innovation system, which Chkhenkeli said was “vital for creating new knowledge in a bid to improve people's well-being”.

Following his meeting with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev on Thursday, the Georgian official also held meetings with Fuad Muradov, the chairman of the state committee on work with the diaspora of Azerbaijan, and his Azerbaijani counterpart Emin Amrullayev, to discuss bilateral ties and prospects to further strengthen cooperation.

The minister stressed the two countries could further strengthen ties between academic circles and higher and vocational educational institutions, and launch joint projects.
