PM’s UN summit address “proves” importance of education for gov’t - education minister

Georgian education minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli on Tuesday said the address of the country’s prime minister Irakli Garibashvili at the United Nations education summit on Monday had “once again confirmed that education is among the government’s strategic priorities”.

In his speech, the prime minister emphasised the great importance of education for the development of the country and the Georgian public”, Chkhenkeli said.

The minister also noted Garibashvili had briefed the summit on the “large-scale projects” in the country, including the construction and renovation of 800 schools by 2026 with the total cost of ₾1 billion ($351million), the initiative Chkhenkeli said “proved” education was among the government’s “strategic priorities”. 

In his address at the Transforming Education Summit, Garibashvili stressed his government was “determined” to reduce social, cultural, and financial barriers by providing access to preschool, general, vocational, and higher education without hindrance, “in line with top international standards”.
