Georgian education minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli on Tuesday said the address of the country’s prime minister Irakli Garibashvili at the United Nations education summit on Monday had “once again confirmed that education is among the government’s strategic priorities”.
In his speech, the prime minister emphasised the great importance of education for the development of the country and the Georgian public”, Chkhenkeli said.
The minister also noted Garibashvili had briefed the summit on the “large-scale projects” in the country, including the construction and renovation of 800 schools by 2026 with the total cost of ₾1 billion ($351million), the initiative Chkhenkeli said “proved” education was among the government’s “strategic priorities”.
In his address at the Transforming Education Summit, Garibashvili stressed his government was “determined” to reduce social, cultural, and financial barriers by providing access to preschool, general, vocational, and higher education without hindrance, “in line with top international standards”.
The Georgian government has successfully enrolled more than 1,500 Ukrainian students forced to flee the country due to the war in schools across Georgia, prime minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Monday in his address to the education summit of the United Nations.
Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili named education as his government’s “top strategic priority” in his address at the United Nations education summit on Monday, stressing commitment to increasing public funding of the sector to up to six percent of the gross domestic product by 2030.
A total of ₾1 billion ($354 mln) will be spent on construction and renovation of 800 schools in Georgia over the next four years, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on Monday.
2019-2020 academic year has started throughout Georgia today, with 700 fully or partly renovated schools. The academic year has begun in more than 2,000 public schools in the country, while the process was delayed for 19 schools due to renovation work there.
Georgian education minister Mikheil Chkhenkeli on Friday visited general, higher and professional educational institutions in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku and was introduced to innovations in the country’s education system.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the Georgian Minister of Education and Science, on Tuesday discussed existing ties and prospects for future cooperation with French educational institutions, as well as major educational and scientific projects in the country, in a meeting with Sheraz Gasri, the newly appointed French Ambassador to Georgia.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday discussed plans in the country’s educational and scientific sectors for this year with Minister of Education and Science Mikheil Chkhenkeli and his deputies, the Government Administration said.
