Azerbaijani president ends visit to Georgia after discussing “special relations”

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev ended his official visit to Georgia after discussing the “special relations and strategic partnership” between the two countries with prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday.

The two officials highlighted the “high level” of their “strategic partnership”, “intensive cooperation” in trade and economy and “active political dialogue” between the two states, the government administration said.

Earlier in the day, the Georgian prime minister hailed the Peaceful Neighbourhood initiative, launched by him to facilitate talks between South Caucasus countries, at a press conference with the visiting Azerbaijani president in the ceantral Georgian city of Mtskheta.

Praising the “neighbourly, friendly and strategic partnership” between the countries, the head of the Georgian government stressed Aliyev’s visit carried “great importance” and noted “we have discussed various topics related to the strong partnership and cooperation between our countries”.

Garibashvili also hosted Aliyev along with his delegation at a dinner in Chateau Mukhrani  in the central Mtskheta municipality. In the informal part of the working visit of the Azerbaijani delegation, the visiting officials were invited to try their hand at preparing traditional Georgian dishes and were introduced to Georgian traditional dances.

Garibashvili and Aliyev also viewed photocopies of Azerbaijani cultural heritage preserved in collections of the Georgian National Museum. Illustrating craftsmanship of Azerbaijanis from various social strata, the collection is related to the Caucasus Museum, founded in capital Tbilisi in 1852.
