Georgia’s judoka Gviniashvili wins gold at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

Georgian judoka Beka Gviniashvili has won a gold medal at the 2022 Grand Slam held in Abu Dhabi. 

In the final, Gviniashvili defeated the French Loris Tassier easily, in the 90 kg weight category, by tying him up in a few seconds.

The Georgian national team has already claimed two gold and one bronze medals, with 19-year-old Giorgi Sardalashvili winning the competition in 60 kg and Eteri Liparteliani in 57 kg claiming the third place.

Sophio Somkhishvili, who reached the finals in the Grand Slam for the first time in her career, was defeated by Chinese opponent Xin Su, earning a silver medal.

The national team took first place in the overall team competition.
