Irakli Kadagishvili, the chair of the Georgian parliament’s rules and procedural issues committee, on Friday alleged representatives of the Ukrainian government were “on the path of revenge” with the idea of opening a second front of the ongoing war in Ukraine in Georgia, calling it “madness” the Georgian government would “never agree to”.
Kadagishvili was commenting on the latest move of the Ukrainian government, which issued decrees imposing sanctions on family members of Georgia’s former prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.
This is a sanctions list announced by Ukraine, which actually means that, unfortunately, the Ukrainian government is revealing its unfriendly policy towards Georgia”, he said.
“They periodically make damaging, compromising statements against Georgia without any arguments, facts or explanations, without specific evidence or argument”, the parliament official noted.
For some reason, they thought Georgia was a country under their influence, [and one] that should be involved in the war against Russia at their request, and that a second front [of the war with Russia] should be opened here”, Kadagishvili alleged.
“Naturally, this is madness which the Georgian government and Georgian people will never agree to. Therefore, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities are on the path of revenge [in response]”, he concluded in his comments.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday issued a decree sanctioning four Georgian citizens, which includes the blocking of assets, restriction of trade operations, flights and transportation on Ukraine’s territory, as well as suspension of economic and financial obligations and more.
