Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze on Monday discussed his country’s “close and fruitful cooperation” with Germany, as well as prospects for a further strengthening of ties with Peter Fischer, the newly appointed German ambassador, and, Andreas Sebald, the country’s new defence attaché.
Praising the existing partnership, the minister stressed the cooperation in defence had been upgraded to “all-time-high” under the current Georgian authorities.
He also recognised Germany’s role in the development of Georgia’s defence forces as boosting of its defence capabilities as “crucial”, and expressed gratitude for “strong political and practical support”.
The officials noted Germany’s efforts in the implementation process of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, which includes defence institutional building, military-engineering sector and development of military medicine capabilities.
The discussion also involved a review of the country’s leading role and its largest financial contribution to the NATO Defence and Security Capacity Building Trust Fund project, as well as ongoing processes in the Georgian Defence Forces.
Topics related to NATO-Georgia cooperation, joint activities, security challenges and Georgia’s plans and intentions for the European Union integration were also discussed by officials in the meeting.
