Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday discussed “fruitful cooperation”, ongoing and future projects with Daren Tang, the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organisation in a Tbilisi meeting, the government administration said.
Expressing gratitude to the WIPO for its “valuable support” for Georgian reforms over years, the head of the Georgian government stressed the country had made “significant progress” in the field of intellectual property protection, with officials expressing readiness to further strengthen ties.
They praised Georgia’s “active involvement” in the work of the central European and Baltic countries regional group of the organisation, and through efforts made by it as the regional coordinator of the group between 2017-2021.
Tang said his organisation's delegation had given “high assessments” to Georgia’s activities as the regional group coordinator.
Both officials said the involvement in the group’s work had created “new opportunities” for Georgia to share European Union experience, allowing the country to better fulfil obligations under the 2014 deep and comprehensive free trade area deal with the EU and develop its intellectual property system.
Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili on Wednesday said the development of the intellectual property system was one of the “important and priority” directions of the Georgian government.
