Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications to host hundreds in Tbilisi

About 250 researchers, policymakers and professionals will gather in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi in June to exchange ideas as part of the Worldwide Symposium on Geographical Indications.

Georgia’s National Intellectual Property Centre on Friday announced the Symposium would discuss the influence of geographical indications on the economy and the social well-being of the population, their role in “strategic branding” of countries, and other related issues.

The event will also involve presentation of 64 Georgian geographical indications registered by the Centre, with guests invited to taste the guda cheese, tkemali plum sauce, churchkhela snacks made with nuts and grape juice, honey from the southern city of Ninotsminda and other domestic produce. 

The list of participants of the event includes representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation and World Tourism Organisation, the World Trade Organisation and members of the European Commission.
