Relations between Georgia and Switzerland and cooperation across a “broad spectrum of mutual priorities” were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Irène Kälin, the president of the national council of Switzerland.
Darchiashvili expressed his satisfaction with the existing “close and friendly” relations between the two countries, which he said were “based on common values and mutual respect”, the Georgian foreign office said.
The meeting noted there was a “great potential” for the development of “mutually beneficial” cooperation in economic relations, professional education, climate protection and more.
Current challenges in the Black Sea region and the importance of a “strong and united” position of the international community to deal with the threats were also reviewed in the meeting.

The top Georgian diplomat focused on the security and human rights situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia and thanked the Swiss side for its “firm support” of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its role as a mediator with Russia following the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
In her turn, Kälin highlighted the “growing dynamics” of relations between Georgia and Switzerland and expressed her special satisfaction regarding the Georgian government’s peace initiative aimed at promoting stability in the South Caucasus region.
