Georgian, Indian FMs discuss prospects for bilateral ties in Tbilisi

Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation with his Indian counterpart Meenakshi Lekhi in a Tbilisi meeting, the foreign ministry said.
Special focus was placed on the importance of development of bilateral cooperation in economy, culture, education and humanitarian direction, the body also said.

The officials welcomed the existing partnership in culture and education, with a number of Indian students receiving higher education in Georgian universities.
After discussing opportunities for strengthening cooperation within international organisations and expressing readiness to ensure further efforts to upgrade ties, Darchiashvili also thanked the Indian minister for her country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Over 2,000 Indian citizens who are students of various universities in Georgia and are stuck in India due to the pandemic and Covid-19 regulations, have asked the Georgian Prime Minister and other high officials to help them return in the country to continue their studies.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is paying his first official visit to Georgia on July 9-10. FM Jaishankar will discuss the bilateral relations, as well as exchange views on issues of regional and global interest with his Georgian counterpart tomorrow.
