Andriy Kasianov, the charge d'affaires of Ukraine in Georgia, on Tuesday said the appointment of Ukraine’s new ambassador to Georgia “is on the agenda of bilateral relations”, following the recall of previous ambassador Igor Dolgov in March.

Speaking to the media, Kasianov stressed the Georgian and Ukrainian foreign ministers “have already discussed the question in different formats”.

The issue of appointing a new ambassador is on the agenda of bilateral relations. This was one of the issues discussed by the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Georgia during an informal meeting held in Prague and also in the format of the Regional International Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development”, said the diplomat.

Ukraine recalled its ambassador for consultations on March 1, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy citing the Georgian government's refusal to impose sanctions on Russia and “barring” Georgian volunteers from flying to Ukraine to take part in the conflict as the reason behind the move.

After signing the decrees recalling ambassadors from Georgia and Morocco at the end of March, Zelenskyy cited their failure to obtain imposition of sanctions on Russia or supply of weapons to Ukraine amid the war with Russia.
