The Georgian Interior Ministry has offered a draft bill that proposes an increase in fines for speeding in a bid to prevent traffic violations, Interpressnews said on Saturday, noting that the amendments will be submitted to the Parliament for discussions in the coming weeks.
According to the amendments, exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h will be fined ₾300 ($104) instead of ₾150 ($52).
The bill says that speeding resulting in an emergency situation will be fined ₾400 ($139) instead of ₾300 ($104), while speeding causing slight damage to a vehicle, cargo, road or other infrastructure, as well as property or individuals, will be fined ₾600 ($208) instead of ₾500 ($173).
In further detail, speeding by a person who carries out regular passenger transportation, long-distance regular passenger transportation or international regular passenger transportation established by the international agreements will result in a fine of ₾400 ($139) instead of ₾300 ($104).
Under the bill, drifting in a car, if it is not a sports event, will be fined ₾300 ($104), while the fine will increase to ₾500 ($173) if the action causes slight damage to a vehicle, cargo, road or other infrastructure, property or an individual.
Georgia recorded 2,572 road accidents between January and June, with 221 people killed and 3,538 others injured, the official statistics of the Interior Ministry said.
