Georgia’s top tennis player, Nikoloz Basilashvili remotely attended a trial hearing on Tuesday in Tbilisi City Court which concerned the violence against his ex-wife Neli Dorokashvili.
At the trial, Dorokashvili presented a video recording, from 2018, of the conflict with Basilashvili, where she was asking her ex-husband “why he had abused her”.
Basilashvili was asked by the court to state his opinion, but he denied the fact of violence and noted that “nothing could be seen in the video”.
The top tennis player has been charged with violence against his ex-wife. He was detained on May 20, 2020, after which Tbilisi City Court released him on ₾100,000 (about $36,000) bail.
