Georgia’s number one tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili, who was charged with violence against his ex-wife Neli Dorokashvili yesterday and was released on 100,000 GEL bail, says he did not use violence against her.

He refused to comment on the issue in public ‘because of his son.’

I hope that the court will reveal the truth. I do not want to publicly speak about my private issue. I do not want to enter into public discussions with my ex-wife and prove the absence [of violence] that did not take place,” Basilashvili said.

The Basilashvili family also released a statement in which they said that Dorokashvili did not want a divorce and the process was mediated by the court.

They also said that Dorokashvili broke into their house and was trying to stage a provocation.

Earlier she also accused Nikoloz’s mother of violence against their son. However, the court said that the accusations were false,” said the family.

Basilashvili’’s relatives told several media outlets that ‘Dorokashvili was demanding more money’ from the family following the divorce.

Dorokashvili says that she had become a victim of violence by Basilashvili and his family many times and she “refused to publicly speak about the issue to protect the reputation of the family.’

Dorokashvili said that she went to Basilashvili’s house to take her son.

However, Basilashvili and his family members attacked me”, she claimed.

The court will discuss the issue next on July 16.
