The state body said the monitoring measures are intensively implemented across the country by the Tax Monitoring Department of the RS in order to find cases of breaching the procedures for using  the national currency .

The statement said the officers of the Tax Monitoring Department carried out control procedures in the area surrounding the Okriba bus station and on Kote Abkhazi Street in the capital Tbilisi. As a result of the monitoring, the monitoring department conducted an administrative proceeding for the “violation of the rules for expressing prices in GEL.”

The state body had fined a foreign citizen for entrepreneurial activity without registration, while another offender was warned for “breaching  the procedure for using the national currency” across the country.

The IS has warned business entities GEL is the only legal means of payment, except for free industrial zones, free trade points and/or cases determined by the National Bank, and has urged them to refrain from violating the rules of using the national currency.
