Implementation of the 12-point conditions outlined by the European Union to Georgia for membership was discussed on Wednesday by the representatives of Georgian Parliamentary opposition groups and members of the European Parliament delegation, led by David McAllister.

After the meeting Levan Ioseliani, a member of the Citizens opposition party and Vice Speaker of the Parliament, said the “main message” of the members of the delegation had been that the opposition should “fully join in all the formats” where the process of implementing the conditions would be worked on.

Ioseliani noted the “only right solution” was to “work together” on the implementation process, and claimed the opposition should not give the ruling Georgian Dream party an “argument” it could use to accuse them of not participating in the process, the Georgian Parliament’s press office said.

In her comments, Lelo opposition party MP Ana Natshvishvili said the visit of the MEPs in Georgia confirmed that, “despite the tension”, the European Parliament was “actively interested” in the process of “saving democracy” in the country, and highlighted the importance of fulfilling the EU conditions.

Khatuna Samnidze, an opposition MP and the Chair of the Republican Party, also made comments on the meeting and stressed the importance of making the implementation process “inclusive”. She also noted the opposition would have to “do their best'' in the process.

During their ongoing visit, the MEPs earlier today held meetings with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, as well as Public Defender Nino Lomjaria.
