Viola von Cramon, a member of the European Parliament and part of a EP delegation on visit to Georgia, on Thursday said it was a “pity” that some opposition groups in Georgia were missing “an important chance” to join the work on the implementation of the conditions outlined by the European Union to Georgia for membership.
Von Cramon said “all political forces” regardless of their political views must “work together” in the process. Interpressnews cited the MEP as saying the delegation had encouraged the part of the domestic opposition that is boycotting the process to “use the opportunity” to participate in the work.
She also noted if transparency was not ensured in the process, opposition members as well as EU representatives would “always be able” to criticise the Georgian Government post-factum.
The visiting MEPs in the delegation on Wednesday held meetings with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, as well as Public Defender Nino Lomjaria and Parliamentary opposition groups.
