Peter Stano, the spokesperson for the external affairs of the European Union, on Friday said Georgia would “get everything it had been promised” from the EU on the membership candidate status.
Stano explained technical procedures of the enlargement package of the bloc, as related to membership candidate status of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.
The enlargement package is typically published in autumn of each year and the reporting period starts in spring. So it’s obvious that for logical reasons the inclusion of these countries into this year’s enlargement package is not possible for procedural reasons”, he said.
The EU has officially noted that the European Commission will present its analytical report on Georgia in December.
[The report] deals exactly with the priorities defined for Georgia [for granting it the membership candidate status]. Georgia will get what it was promised. We, of course, expect the same from Georgia, that it will deliver on all the things it committed to and that are necessary in order to proceed in this very important process”, the EU official said.
Stano concluded his comments by noting the analytical report would be followed by “the proper report” within the enlargement package in the autumn of 2023.
