Georgian FM expects PM’s Uzbekistan visit to bring “new impetus” to relations

Ilia Darchiashvili, the Foreign Minister of Georgia, expects the first official visit of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Uzbekistan to bring a “new impetus” to the development of relations between the two countries and strengthen their cooperation.

In his comments on the ongoing visit, Darchiashvili on Tuesday noted a “very wide range” of prospective activities and directions for cooperation between the states, the Foreign Ministry’s press office said, while also noting the sides would obtain “concrete, tangible” results from the process.

As part of the meetings of the Georgian delegation with Uzbek officials, Darchiashvili met  Vladimir Norov, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, to discuss bilateral relations. The Georgian official welcomed the “positive dynamics” of cooperation as part of the discussion.

The sides  acknowledged  the ongoing consultations between their foreign ministries created a “good basis” for the development of relations in various fields, while highlighting  the “fruitful relations” between the legislatures. The parties have signed a cooperation programme between the relevant ministries for 2022-2024.

The Head of the Georgian Foreign office also thanked his counterpart for the humanitarian assistance provided to Georgia at the initial stage of the Covid-19 pandemic, and invited his colleague for an official visit to Georgia.
