Georgian citizens have submitted 14,970 asylum requests to European Union member states and Schengen Area countries, an increase of 68 percent compared to 2021, the latest report of the European Union Agency for Asylum shows.
The breakdown of the number of Georgian nationals seeking asylum in the EU and Schengen Area countries over the recent years looks as follows:
The annual report of the EUAA also showed Georgians had submitted the highest number (37%) of asylum applications to France.
In total, 10,590 first-time asylum seekers from Georgia were denied the request by EU authorities last year.
