The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has charged two individuals for manufacturing and using forged tax documents, legalising illegal income and evading “particularly large amounts” of tax, the state body said on Friday.

In its investigation, the Service found the arrested individuals had created forged tax documents purporting purchase and supply of timber materials between each other.

Using the forged documents, they then sold illegally extracted timber worth ₾640,763 on local market.

The offenders were also found to have “systematically” submitted irregular income declarations for companies under their management, avoiding paying around ₾500,000 to the state budget, the body said.

The crime is punishable by nine to 12 years in prison.
