The first session of the Government commission for establishing a Georgian cultural centre near the Jordan River was held on Tuesday and chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The PM noted work on the concept of the venue should be completed “as soon as possible” to enable the construction to start, adding he would “personally” lead the work of the permanent working group, set up as part of the Commission at the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Georgian Government officials as well as Andria Jagmaidze, the Head of the Georgian Orthodox Church Patriarchate Public Relations Service and Davit Makharadze,  the Metropolitan of Alaverdi.

The 4,000-square-metre location near the river was presented by Jordan’s royal family to Georgia in January for the project of a Georgian culture centre.
