Work on the project of a Georgian cultural centre on a 4,000-square-metre land plot presented by royals of Jordan to Georgia this year is underway, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Tuesday in comments summarising the Government’s work in 2022.

Garibashvili said the design works for the project were underway, and pledged the project would be finalised “in the near future” following the issuing of permits for the Government to facilitate its construction.

The land plot was gifted by Jordan’s royal family to Georgia in January, with the location near the baptism site of Jesus Christ.

Both secular and clerical authorities were involved in the transfer of the plot near the river that flows through the Sea of Galilee and towards the Dead Sea.
