Georgian officials on Wednesday shared condolences after Deputy Tbilisi Mayor Ilia Eloshvili was found dead at his home.
Mayor Kakha Kaladze called the death of his “friend and a precious person” a “great tragedy”.
Eloshvili was aged 47 and is succeeded by his wife and two children. He had been the Deputy Mayor since 2021 and following a stint as the Minister of Energy.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry launched an investigation into the death, however no further details were immediately released.
Georgian officials extended their congratulations on International Women’s Day to people in Ukraine as well as Ukrainian women in Georgia on Tuesday, calling the sharing of messages “emotionally exciting” on the backdrop of Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.
