EBRD to finance largest Georgian healthcare provider with $40 mln

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will finance the largest healthcare provider in the country - Georgia Healthcare Group - with $40 million, of which $15 million will be allocated to JSC Evex Hospitals, the EBRD announced on Wednesday.
The international financial institution said the project would use $10 million to refinance the remaining exposure under the loan provided by the Bank in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, while $15 million would go to a “partially financing” of the minority shareholder buyout of the Group's pharmaceutical business JSC Gepha.
As for Evex Hospitals, the funds will be provided for the following expenditures:
- Introduction of additional services across the selected hospitals
- Planned upgrade of number of regional hospitals
- Energy efficiency investments
- Partial refinancing of the maturing private local currency bonds to benefit liquidity position of the network

Georgia’s readiness to implement reforms in the fields of energy security and independence, as well as the country’s infrastructure and the capital market were highlighted during a meeting between the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Odile Renaud-Basso, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Ministry announced on Thursday.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has held an official meeting with the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso, during his visit to Glasgow for the UN Summit, where the importance of political stability in Georgia was emphasised following the municipal election run-offs.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has released its 2020-2021 transition report in which the IFI assesses Georgia’s economic situation amid the pandemic, forecasting 3.5 per cent growth for 2021.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has allocated €90 million to finance the construction of 150 km long new transmission network and substations in Georgia and to strengthen the energy network in the country.
Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday discussed “successful cooperation” and future prospects between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the country’s authorities with Odile Renaud-Basso, the president of the institution.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will assign a $16 million loan, backed by the European Union and Sweden, to Georgia’s Credo Bank to support local micro, small and medium-sized companies and women-led firms in the country, the Bank announced on Tuesday.
