The Gastronomic Association of Georgia plans to host the 2023 edition of the National Chefs Championship in the country, the Georgian Economy Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The Association, founded in 2018, held its presentation earlier today, with Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili calling gastronomy “one of the main directions” of tourism in reference to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s naming of the field as one of the top five most important motivations for tourists in recent years.
He also elaborated on the challenges the sector faced, stressing the importance of putting in “more effort” in the direction due to the “very high” competition worldwide.
Calling gastronomy the “biggest advantage” of the Georgian tourism sector along with its culture and biodiversity, Davitashvili noted the competitive advantage of Georgian tourism was “best felt” in this field.
Bringing together 250 members and 57 chefs, the country’s Gastronomic Association seeks to develop and promote the Georgian gastronomy culture both at a national and international level and is an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO.
