Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted Georgia’s “full solidarity” with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people since the outbreak of the war in the country, adding the support was evidenced by “appropriate political and diplomatic steps” in bilateral or multilateral formats.
Speaking at a plenary meeting of the Parliament, Garibashvili noted his Government’s “strong support” for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
Russia's full-scale military aggression against Ukraine is, of course, a gross violation of fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as of the United Nations Charter, and it poses an unprecedented challenge to the European security architecture,” the Government head told MPs.
In this situation, from the very first day of the war, Georgia has expressed its full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, as evidenced by appropriate political and diplomatic steps in bilateral or multilateral formats,” the PM added.
Garibashvili stressed the Georgian Parliament was “one of the first legislative bodies” to pass a resolution on a possible military escalation in Ukraine, “condemning any intention” against a sovereign state.
“In many public statements, our top officials have condemned Russia's military aggression against sovereign Ukraine,” he noted.
Garibashvili also evoked the humanitarian aid provided by his Government to Ukraine, pointing out that $7 million had already been allocated to help Ukrainians in Georgia, and up to 1,000 tons of humanitarian cargo had been sent to the country defending itself from the Russian invasion.
Garibashvili also thanked the Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine Giorgi Zakarashvili for his work, noting Georgian diplomatic missions in Kyiv, Odesa and Lviv were continuing their work.
