Andriy Kasyanov, a representative of the Ukrainian Embassy to Georgia, on Wednesday commented on assistance provided by Georgia to Ukraine and thanked the Georgian Government for its support amid the Russian invasion.
Kasyanov noted over a thousand tons of humanitarian aid had been sent from the country to Ukraine as of May 24, and cited the Georgian PM’s comments at the Warsaw Conference earlier this month that said the country would continue to support reception and accommodation of Ukrainian refugees, and allocate $7 million for the purpose.
We expect that the relevant decisions will be approved by the [Georgian] Government in the near future and there will be no problems with the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees in Georgia,” Kasyanov noted.
He also thanked Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the Georgian Minister of Education and Science, for the opening of Ukrainian-language classes at Georgian schools for students from Ukraine who found themselves stranded in Georgia by the invasion that started in February.
The Georgian Government has supported Ukraine “at all international levels” and will continue to do so on the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of the country, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili told a meeting of the Government on Monday.

Ukrainian students in Georgia who are unable to return to schools in their country due to the ongoing war were welcomed to classes in their native language at the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Tbilisi No. 41 Public School on Monday, by the decision of Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister, Georgia’s Education Ministry revealed.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted Georgia’s “full solidarity” with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people since the outbreak of the war in the country, adding the support was evidenced by “appropriate political and diplomatic steps” in bilateral or multilateral formats.
Andriy Kasyanov, a representative of the Ukrainian Embassy to Georgia, on Friday said Georgian diplomats had carried out their work in Ukraine “during the most critical time” of the Russian invasion of the country.
Georgian and foreign officials will join a solidarity walk involving refugees in the country on Sunday to mark World Refugee Day in capital Tbilisi’s Botanical Garden, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said.
The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed on Thursday a resolution calling for protection of civilians amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, co-sponsored by 90 states including Georgia.
