Latvia will donate a helicopter to the Georgian Interior Ministry following the signing of a memorandum between Nikoloz Sharadze, the Head of the Ministry's Border Police and Guntis Pujāts, the Chief of the Latvian State Border Guard, the Ministry announced on Tuesday.
Pilots and engineers will also be trained under the International Centre for Migration Policy Development’s programme for strengthening the Georgian Border Police's capacities for green and sea border surveillance.
An Interior Ministry delegation led by Giorgi Butkhuzi, the Deputy Minister, is holding an official visit to Latvia, during which the parties have also signed a document on their border protection cooperation plan of 2022.
The Georgian officials also held various high-level meetings in Latvia, including Butkhuzi’s meeting with his Latvian counterpart Dmitry Trofimov, the Ministry said, adding the delegation had also visited a Latvian border checkpoint to become acquainted with specifics of the work of the Latvian state border protection.
