The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia launched criminal prosecution against 5,144 individuals throughout the country for domestic violence and violence against women throughout 2021, the state body said on Monday.
Taken from the latest annual report, the figure from the statistics of the past year was provided in addition to a breakdown of the related annual numbers since 2014.
The breakdown shows the body initiate prosecution cases for domestic violence and violence against women with the following numbers:
The report also said cases of domestic violence and violence against women comprised 21.1 percent of the prosecutions launched in the past year.
Combating domestic and gender-based violence “remains one of the main priorities” of the Prosecutor’s Office, the body added.
