NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday said the “brutal invasion” of Ukraine by Russia had demonstrated the need for NATO to provide support to countries including Moldova and Georgia.

The alliance official said the European countries that were not members of the alliance or the European Union needed support from the bloc in the aftermath of the invasion that started in February.

Georgia is a very highly valued partner, and also in close cooperation with the European Union. We are looking into what we can do more to work even closer with our close partners in the eastern part of Europe,” he said.

Stoltenberg stressed the need to provide countries like Georgia and Moldova with “practical and political” support in the wake of the ongoing conflict.
