Georgian FM to hold high-level meetings in Azerbaijan

Ilia Darchiashvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, will pay an official visit to Azerbaijan between April 26-27, the Georgian foreign office said on Tuesday.
The Minister will hold a series of high-level meetings, including with President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gaparova and her counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
The visit will focus on the questions of Georgia-Azerbaijan strategic partnership, the Ministry said.
Bilateral relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as the regional situation amid the war in Ukraine were topics of discussion between Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and Azerbaijani National Assembly Speaker Sahiba Gafarova on Tuesday.
The strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, and questions of strengthening economic ties, transport and energy projects in the South Caucasus region were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.
Georgia and Azerbaijan “have always played” an important role in building peace in the South Caucasus region, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili said on Tuesday following a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Sahiba Gafarova.
Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, praised the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia by calling the two states “strategic partners” in press conference with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday.
Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, on Tuesday claimed the existence of a “disinformation campaign” being carried out “against Georgia” with the aim of “causing unrest and involving the country in a war” following a release of an unconfirmed audio recording of an alleged call between Russian businessman Vladimer Evtushenkov and former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.
The fact that Georgia maintains trade relations with Russia amid the latter's invasion of Ukraine is" neither illegal nor immoral", particularly when Ukraine itself maintains trade with Russia, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Tuesday.
The strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
