The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday thanked diplomatic missions of foreign countries in Kyiv, including the Embassy of Georgia, for their support to the country in the wake of the Russian invasion.
The Ukrainian foreign office said more diplomatic representations in the capital were resuming their work, which “is one of the proofs that the world supports Ukraine.”
Currently, there are 16 diplomatic missions in the capital: EU, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Vatican, Moldova, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. Thanks to our friends for their support!” the Ministry said.
The Georgian diplomatic mission in Kyiv has remained in the capital since the start of the Russian invasion in February.
Georgia is not imposing sanctions against Russia, but the country will not become a way to circumvent the international measures taken against the Kremlin for its invasion of Ukraine, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday.
Georgia has taken “specific steps” to show support for Ukraine, and the country stands with the Ukrainian people in “every possible way”, Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday.
Georgia will not be a country where Russia will be able to bypass international sanctions for its invasion of Ukraine, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated on Sunday, following his visit to Ukraine and meeting with the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chair Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine last month, a decree of the Prime Minister of Georgia instructed diplomatic missions of Georgia in the country to organise evacuation of Georgian nationals to their home country and provide them with basic assistance on the backdrop of the war.
The Ukrainian city of Bucha and the town of Irpin tell the story of “heroes fighting for freedom”, Archil Talakvadze, the Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker, tweeted on Tuesday following a visit of a Georgian Parliamentary delegation to Ukraine over the weekend.
Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker, on Friday thanked speakers of parliaments of foreign countries, including his Georgian counterpart, who have visited Ukraine to express their support in the face of Russian aggression.
