The Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia on Monday offered his condolences to families and relatives of the Georgian volunteers killed in Ukraine last week amid the ongoing Russian invasion.

In the letter, the leader of the Orthodox Church of the country extended his condolences and said the war had “unfortunately taken the lives of our compatriots again,” the press office of the Patriarchate of Georgia said.

The letter extended condolences to relatives of Davit Menabdishvili, Nikoloz Shanava, Alexander Tsaava, Arkadi Kasradze and Zaza Bitsadze, who died while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces defending the country from the ongoing Russian invasion.

In total, nine Georgian volunteers have been killed in Ukraine since Russia’s invasion of the country in February.
