Ruling party head: newly appointed FM “really outstanding professional”

The newly appointed Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili is a “really outstanding professional”, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday, adding he was confident the new foreign relations official would prove to be a “very good Foreign Minister”.

Kobakhidze congratulated Ilia Darchiashvili on his appointment as Foreign Minister at today’s briefing at the Georgian Dream party office.

Darchiashvili is a really outstanding professional and a very conscientious person. He has serious diplomatic experience, having worked as an ambassador for years. He also has many years of experience in public service. I'm sure he will be a very good foreign minister,” the GD official said.

Prime Minister Garibashvili announced on Monday Darchiashvili was taking over the Foreign Minister position from David Zalkaliani, who has been appointed Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States.

Darchiashvili is a graduate of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Grenoble Business School in France.
