Representing Georgia in the United States, Georgia's "main strategic partner", is a huge responsibility, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani said on Monday following his appointment as Georgia’s Ambassador to the US.
Zalkaliani said foreign policy was one of the main directions for the Government and “significantly determines the fate of the country, its daily life and future.”
I promise you that I will continue my work in a new position with an even higher responsibility. I promise you that during my tenure as Ambassador, our cooperation with the United States will reach a qualitatively higher level,” Zalkaliani said.
Prime Minister Garibashvili announced on Monday Ilia Darchiashvili, the former Head of the Government Administration, had been appointed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, taking over the position from Zalkaliani.
Garibashvili thanked Zalkaliani for his work, pointing out his service “in various positions for 30 years.”
