$17 million invested in new terminal of Batumi airport, capable of serving 1.2 million passengers

A new terminal has been opened at the airport of the Georgian Black Sea resort town of Batumi that will now be able to serve 1.2 million passengers annually.

The expansion of Batumi International Airport was conditioned by the increase of passenger flow, which exceeded 600,000 in 2019. 

In total $17 million was invested in the project which employed about 300 locals.

As part of the project both the landing and departure parts of the existing passenger terminal building have been expanded. The total area of the new terminal building has been increased from 4,000 sq.m. to 8,000 sq.m.

In addition, the luggage handling area was partially expanded, where an automatic conveyor system was introduced and an additional one luggage carousel was installed. 

Registration counters increased from eight to 14, border guard booths from six to 12 on arrival, and from six to eight on flight side. 

Two bus exits have been added to the departure zone, which makes a total of six bus exits available for passengers.

The duti free zone, business lounge and airport car parking spaces have also been expanded. International standard food facilities have been added to the airport.

About 30 airline companies operate at Batumi International Airport.  

Batumi airport was opened on May 26, 2007. This was the first renovation work for the airport since then.
