Extreme weather, wind and snowfall have caused problems on roads across Georgia.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has urged drivers to refrain from driving if they lack seasonal tires.

He said that roads in the capital city are ‘intensively cleaned’ from snow and salt is being spread to de-ice the roads.

Restrictions have been imposed on several roads in Georgia:

  • Only off-road vehicles are allowed on Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi highway (1-62km).
  • Only trucks and semi-tricks are not allowed on Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze international highway ( 28-158km), on Tbilisi by-pass highway, on Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestaponi road, on Ponichala-Marneuli-Guguti road (65-98km), on Akhalkhalaki-Kartsakhi road (1-36th road section) and on Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road.
  • No vehicles are allowed on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road (Georgia’s border with Russia), as well as on the Kala-Ushguli section (171-186km) of Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili road.
