Heavy snowfall across Georgia since January 27 has led to travel restrictions being placed on certain roads.
- The eastern Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi Highway that connects the Kakheti region with the rest of Georgia is closed to large trucks, semi-trailers and large passenger vehicles (with more than 30 seats). Other cars can only travel along this road with anti-skid chains.
- Similarly, any car wanting to approach the Georgia-Turkey border through the Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi road as well as Georgia-Armenia border through the Akhaltsikhe-Ninotsminda road must have their anti-skid chains on.
- The 35-72km (Nakerala Pass) section of western Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road is closed to large trucks, semi-trailers and large passenger vehicles (with more than 30 seats), while other cars can only travel along this road with anti-skid chains.
Georgia’s Road Department advised drivers from all over Georgia to put winter tires on their vehicles if they intend to travel to remote regions of the country.
