Traffic movement has been restricted on First Republic Square and Rustaveli Avenue due to New Year’s Eve celebrations starting 13:00 today.
Tbilisi City Hall announced that vehicles heading from Melikishvili Street to Freedom Square will be able to move on Javakhishvili Street and Rustaveli Avenue only in the direction of Freedom Square.
Going from Freedom Square to Melikishvili Street will be possible only by First Republic Square.
Vehicles moving from Melikishvili Street to Freedom Square will be able to get to the First Republic Square via Javakhishvili, Inashvili, Meskhia and Lagidze streets.
The restriction will be in effect until 6 a.m., January 1.
The New Year Village will open today at the Orbeliani Square, Dedaena Garden, April 9 Garden, and Dry Bridge area today.
New Year events will be held in all Georgian regions from December 24 until January 8 with Covid regulations observed, per the initiative of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
The Georgian government has declared January 1-10 a public holiday in Georgia for ‘reducing mobility’ in the country following confirmation of 24 cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council, Giorgi Gibradze, announced earlier today.
Georgia's main New Year tree has lit up in central Tbilisi in front of the parliament building earlier this evening. Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, as well as Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, attended the ceremony with their families.
