The number of total Covid-19 Omicron variant cases has risen to 51 as of December 26 in Georgia, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported earlier today.
The first two cases of the Omicron strain in the country were confirmed on December 20.
NCDC Head Amiran Gamkrelidze said that 18 of the 51 infected individuals are under the age of 18, while one of them is a 3-year-old child.
NCDC Deputy Head Paata Imnadze said that three doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are approximately 75% effective against the Omicron variant.
I once again call for vaccination, especially to older generations. Those who have received two doses, should get booster shots, Imnadze added.
Georgia has reported 1,661 new cases of coronavirus, 3,841 recoveries and 69 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate for the last 14 days stands at 5.93%.
The country has had a total of 923,080 Covid-19 cases since February 26, 2020.
881,863 of the 923,080 infected individuals have recovered, while 13,512 have died from the virus.
1,275,692 individuals in the country have received at least one dose of Covid-19 the vaccine so far, while 1,123,129 have been fully vaccinated.
